More Precious Than Gold… the Memory of a Loved One

Gold continues to break record highs and platinum prices remain steady, but it’s not these metals that make your jewelry so valuable.  It’s how it came into your possession.  Who gave it to you?  Where did you find it?  What were the circumstances?  Many times the most precious of jewels are those passed down to you from a loved one.  Jewelry is an amazing keepsake since it often lasts for generations.

At Stucki we often hear amazing stories about generational jewelry. My grandmother passed along a right hand ring to me made out of her original wedding set from her deceased first husband.  He was her first true love and she lost him in an unfortunate workplace accident when they were both still young.  She wore this beautiful diamond ring on the cruises she would take with her second husband.  Thankfully it is a custom ring with vintage style I enjoy.  Wearing it makes me feel closer to my grandmother because it keeps her in my thoughts whenever I see the ring. When you inherit a ring or a great-aunt’s brooch it can be a perfect match for your style and vintage look, or it can fill the darkened corners of your jewelry box (since you wouldn’t ever wear it but you can’t get rid of it either).   Consider making a custom piece of jewelry.  You can easily turn a larger ring into a pendant, or you can start from scratch creating a personalized look from the inherited stones set into a new mounting you absolutely love.

We have seen a jump in custom jobs over the last few years as people turn their old jewelry into a new piece they love.  Why not combine a couple older pieces together with an inherited piece?  There are so many options.  Have you ever wanted a mother’s ring?  Why not incorporate a stone from your mother’s ring to expand the meaning farther?  How about making a promise ring for your teenage son or daughter out of your original wedding band or ring you don’t wear anymore.  I love the symbolism jewelry can make for the person wearing it.  Be creative.  Guaranteed it will be a piece you can pass along to your loved ones with a legacy of loved ones along with it.
